dearest silence my old friend
Silence. It held Savannah Rose Ashford in this little moving envelope. Like it sat atop her shoulder, holding her head in place. The inside smelled like paper but, essentially, it blocked everything out. She was partially blinded by it and the sound of nothingness was almost reassuring to her. Of course there wasn't really an envelope atop her shoulders! No, Savannah wished life were that easy. She was surrounded by the subtle sounds of life around her. Anything was better than just sitting around the Slytherin commons or the dorm. Savannah hated to be there, around those people. Savannah hated being around people at all. Had she not had such little time left at school, she would have dropped out to home-school. She was incapable of friendship and she was more advanced than the studies they taught in her year, she really had no reason to even want to stay. The only thing she could think was that she was better off there than at home with Silas breathing down her neck 24/7.
Savannah Rose Ashford wore a pair of plain, dark denim jeans. She also wore a plain gray knit sweater and a pair of navy blue converse. Around her neck was a Slytherin scarf. Her Ashford eyes were trained to the darkness around her. Her hand was loosely dangling her wand from her fingertips. She wasn't alarmed to be walking about the edges of the forest at night. It was only just past 9 PM anyway. The weather was perfect, warm but windy. It was only just starting to get crisper, more icy.
She wandered toward a log where she sat down rather half-heartedly. What had she been seeking tonight? She had nothing to look forward to, nothing to find here. No, she only had her silence, or a fake version of it anyway. She had a lack of the existence of others to interfere with her thinking. She also had the thoughts of the vision to keep her mind buzzing with activity. If she was feeling adventurous, she could move forth into the forest and search for the spot where she and Caravus had stood so many times. She could find the tiny shack. She could find the spot at the bottom of the cliff where Albus Dumbledore had found Andrew Caravus's body, frail and broken. Savannah had no such ambitions though. No, instead, she could only bask in the feeling that she was entirely too alone. She could only sit and think of the fact that she did not have, nor would she ever really have, any friends. She'd never wanted anyone. Although it would have have been nice on a night like this one to have just one person to laugh with. Instead, Savannah turned to her over-sized purse and took out a comic book titled, "Wenda the Worthy!" It was #280 in the series. It had a colorful witch on a broomstick on the front. The comic book was filled with colorful little moving squares inside. Wizarding Comics were so different than the ones muggles were accustomed to. Wenda was a pureblooded witch who saved the lives of those who lived in her Wizarding village in Italy. It was weird but hey, anyone who wrote a comic book couldn't be all normal, right?
Savannah watched the tiny moving picture and wondered if she could become any more lonely, any more lost, any more pathetic looking. She was normally so confident, normally so at the top of her game. Life to her was, after all, just one huge game. Now that He was back, the game had become more interesting. The Dark Lord valued girls like Savannah Rose Ashford and Sav knew this too well. She ran a hand through her messy, dark locks, and set the comic book down to just stare into the darkness of the forest again. She was having difficulty keeping focus anyway.

she doesn't deserve to be in a place like this, all alone she's underage and so very very brave a fake ID lent her credibility skipping. that’s what april amelia moore was doing down the hallways of hogwarts. the fifth year had discarded her robe up in her dormitory minutes earlier, and was now sporting a blue sweat shirt, some jeans and light blue converse. students passed her hurriedly, either trying to get a start on their homework, or just to get away from the strange girl who was skipping through the hallways. she didn’t care though, it allowed her a clear passage to the great hall for dinner.
upon arriving to the great hall, she glanced around the buzzing room. students flocked everywhere, trying to find a place to sit at their house tables. april however, walked right up to the slytherin table and plopped down where she felt was good enough. it didn’t bother her that her friends were a few tables up from hers, or that she was sitting across from a second year that was searching for treasures up his noise. she was so carefree, all that mattered was the thing or things she was doing in the current moment. she didn’t like concerning herself with things that were out of her control. what would be fun about that?
when the food appeared in front of her, april quickly swallowed down the shepherd’s pie. she hummed lightly as she pushed her plate away and hopped up from her seated position. she exited the great hall, waving at a few people whom glanced at her on her little merry way. she took the same path that she had taken earlier, only decided it’d be easier to walk this time. her feet padded against the stone floor, and her mind began to wander. when was the last time she had had a good drink? or been to a good party. oh yes; summer. the warm days of sun and heat seemed so far away as she hopped onto a staircase. she could still taste the bitter sweet taste of the alcohol on her tongue.
the staircase moving in the opposite direction had made her jolt a bit, she held onto the banister and waited for the damned thing to make a decision on where it wanted to take her. it stopped suddenly, and landed with a thud. she descended them and instantly felt a cool breeze. the brunette had not intended on going back to her common room, instead she was going to wander around a bit, and probably make her way out to the grounds, but the stairway had changed her mind, and she continued down the long cold hallway to her common room.
she smiled towards the portrait, and quickly stated the password. she stepped in and her eyes immediately filled with the colors of green and silver. a few students lingered around, but she knew many were still seated at the long tables in the great hall. she shuffled over to the fireplace, and cuddled into the armchair. her mind wandered, like it usually did, and the heat from the crackling fire reminded her of summer once again. her brown eyes hid behind her eyelids, and if anyone walked into the room, she’d be sure they’d think she was sleeping, but she wasn’t. she was fully awake.
her eyes shot open at a sudden thought. snape. he would always leave the potions classroom door open for emergencies. she also knew, he had a stash of firewhiskey in there somewhere. she had come across it looking for belladonna a few days earlier. she quickly uncurled her legs, and hopped up. it was nearing eight o’ clock now, and almost all the students were arriving back to the common room. she quickly slipped up to her dorm, and grabbed her purse, tossing in her favorite heart flask. her brother had bought it for her as a joke, claiming she should brew some love potion and stick it in there for safe keeping. she had accepted it with an eye roll, and a smile, but knew it’d come in handy.
april quickly headed out of her door, and exited the common room. she quietly glided to the potions classroom. she pushed the door open quietly, and just as she had expected the classroom was dark and empty. she pulled out her wand, “ lumos!” she whispered. she quickly made her way over towards the cabinets, and shuffled the numerous bottles around. her eyes lit up when she found the bottle, and she quickly pulled the flask out of her bag. she poured a good amount into the heart shaped container, and then quickly tightened the cap and stuffed the bottle back behind the others.
once back in the hallway, she sighed in relief. it was nearing nine, and she knew she couldn’t go back to her common room, to enjoy her little treat. Instead she turned towards the nearest stairwell, and took the stairs up to the grounds. her sneaker clad feet hit the soft grass, and she padded down towards the forest. she actually really hated the forest, but she needed a quiet place to enjoy her firewhiskey. once she knew she was safely out of the sight of hogwarts, she skipped into the forest. she could hear the liquid in the flask in her purse, gurgling with each skip. she stopped momentarily, to take a quick swig, and continued on.
her wand was still lit, and she glanced around the forest for somewhere to sit. the light stretched forward a bit, and the fifth year could make out a figure. she tilted her head, and walked towards it. she was a few feet away when she noticed who the figure was. savannah rose ashford. a fellow slytherin. she smiled, and bounded over. she knew the girl wasn’t very fond of her, but that didn’t bother april. she plopped her butt next to the girl and turned towards her, “ hiya!” she smiled. she pulled the flask from her bag, before setting it down on ground. she held it out towards savannah, “firewhiskey?”
