nickname(s):
daphne likes to be called by her full name, but she doesn't mind the occasional 'daph'.
age:
seventeen
date of birth:
October 2nd
family members:daphne's mother is cosmia greengrass. she's a vain, silly woman who, like most women of high society, is more concerned with her family's social status than their actual well fare. Unlike many though, she does try to make an attempt at connecting with her daughters.
daphne's father is apollo greengrass. he's rather quiet and usually keeps to himself even at home. he spends most of the time in his study or out and about. he has yet to make a major connection with anyone except his wife.
daphne's sister is astoria. she is three years younger than daphne, although only two years behind in school. they get along fairly well, although there will always be disagreements.
wand:
12 inches, laurel, unicorn tail hair core, springy."The bay laurel is sacred to Apollo and is generally associated with immortality, eternal youth, the regeneration of youth, and healing."
taken from here.
"Unicorn hair is a more subtle wand, but it is quite compatible with Charms and Transfiguration. It is also hands-down the best core for healing, as it picks up some of the healing capabilities of unicorn blood. Unicorn hair has a reputation of picking gentler or more cerebral users, so it is common amongst Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws. More laid-back Gryffindors and subtler Slytherins may find themselves with a Unicorn hair wand."

good memory:"What are we doing out here?"
"Just relax. This is fun, isn't it?"
"I don't know. Isn't Mother going to be upset with us?"
"Don't be thick Torie; she'll only be mad if she finds out."
"Do you do this all the time?"
...
It wasn't uncommon for Daphne to sneak out at night, and do basically, whatever she pleased. It was however, uncommon for her to take her younger sister Astoria along with her. The younger Greengrass had a tendency to be more subdued, easily molded and bent for society's purpose for women, even now in the 20th century. But she supposed she had to teach Torie the ropes, whether she would accompany her older sister or not.
So tonight, Daphne and Torie had left almost moments after dinner, taken a bus (yes, a muggle bus. Muggle, wizard, whatever, Daphne would not say no to convenience. She wasn't a fool) all the way there. It was dark now, and the rain had subsided, for once. Although she was acting rather blasé about this, she had never gone this far from home before. Never even been at the beach before. But she knew she couldn't be acting jumpy or off her game, because if Astoria found out it would just make everything worse. Instead, she just enjoyed her time, enjoyed the cold sand, the splashing waves, and the salty air. It was nothing like she'd ever experienced before, and the older Greengrass absolutely adored it.
"Come here Torie," Daphne called out excitedly, sitting on her heels and staring at something at the sand.
"What is it?"
"Isn't it brilliant?"
"Is that a crab?"
"Yes," Daphne answered with a spark in her eye, picking it up and placing it on the palm of her hand. She moved the hand very close to Torie's face then, who screamed and fell back in surprise. This set Daphne off into a fit of hysterics, blonde curls going mad in the wind and salt water, eyes watering from laughing so hard, the sound of her laughter not even coming out any longer. It seemed this laughter was contagious, because before long both sisters were on the sand laughing like fools.
bad memory:"Daphne, sit still."
"I'm bored."
"Don't say that, that's very ugly for a girl to say. Say 'tedious', instead."
"Mother, I'm tedious."
"No, but your complaining is certainly starting to become tedious."
"I don't like -ow! I don't like sitting here."
"Well start liking it."
"You're hurting me Mother."
"If you would just comb your hair instead of letting it become a mess than this wouldn't hurt."
"But brushing my hair is bor-I mean tedious. And then it means I can't play as long."
"Little girls shouldn't be playing outside."
"Why?"
"Because girls have to look beautiful all the time, not look like they've been in a hurricane when they come back in for dinner."
"Why?"
"Because that's just the way it is Daphne. You must always look your best and be presentable for the rest of the world."
"Do boys have to do this?"
"..To an extent."
"What is extent?"
"You know, Astoria doesn't ask this many questions. She sits still and does everything I tell her. She's much better behaved, and she's going to be much more successful in life than you. There, your hair's done. Now go get your sister, we're going to take lessons on table manners. Quickly, now."
"But, I don't want to. I want to play."
"I don't care Daphne. No one cares what you want. It's about doing what you're told to do."
history:Cosmia and Apollo Greengrass had been forced into marriage. Simple as that. Although they didn't fight it, it was obvious neither one of them was very ecstatic about it. For the most part, they kept a polite distance, only breaking that cordiality in physical union. Eventually, one thing led to another and Cosmia was pregnant with her first child. Nine months later and out came Daphne, loud as can be, and a sore disappointment for Apollo. Although the craze to produce a male heir to marry a rich woman and carry on the family name with pride and honor had died out a bit in previous generations, it was always a bit disheartening to see that a couple had produced a girl instead of a boy.
From the very beginning, Daphne had been a rather spoiled little girl. It was difficult for her not to though. Although later on Cosmia would become a mother struggling to mentally connect to Daphne, her (mostly) pliable nature as a child kept her spending a lot of time with her mother. Usually this time would consist of trying on dress after frilly dress, doing hair, cosmetic charms, watching Mother dress up, going to visit friends and show off her gem of a daughter, or shopping for more expensive and frilly dresses. Although she had never been such a great fan of this whole ritual in the first place, always fidgeting with her clothing or in her seat, Daphne dealt with it.
The arrival of Astoria however, changed everything. Cosmia had a new doll to play with, and it meant Daphne was free to do what she pleased. Which consisted of trying to convince her father to buy her a toy broomstick (requests which he completely ignored, let alone answered with a 'no'. A little girl on a broomstick? Yeah, right), poking and prodding Astoria to the point of crying, and playing outside. This was the time when she was able to have more freedom, do what she pleased, and realise that although she hated the attention her mother gave it, she craved it as well. She was three years old, after all. Wailing and screaming for her mother to come into her room just to find Daphne sitting there, no emergency, no spectacular sight, nothing, was common.
Of course, like many children, Daphne was tamed into obedience, albeit a rather shaky one that was easily (and usually) broken. Perhaps it was Astoria becoming older and more interesting that subdued Daphne, or the threats of becoming a social outcast for the rest of her life. In any case she calmed down enough to be able to be taken around the town, showed off along with her little sister, all the things her mother enjoyed doing while her father was off in the ministry. Or whatever he did, Daphne had never been sure.
---
Eleven was an important number in every witch and wizard's life. Eleven was the age that one finally began to grow up, separate themselves from their parents, gain independence, learn things for themselves, develop their own opinions, and most importantly, the age that they received their letter to attend Hogwarts. Although at this time Daphne had a varied amount of friends, those of which were her age were able to go to Hogwarts before she was. It was dreadfully embarrassing for her, since she at first had no idea that one had to be eleven at the time the letter was sent, not just eleven at any time. Magic had been apparent in her life for years now, and there were no squibs (that she knew of) in the family. So what then? Her fear and humiliation was something that her mother noticed right away. How could her usually proud and arrogant daughter be so lackluster, so ready to acquiesce any request instead of arguing that they're all frivolous? When she finally got the reason out of Daphne (a mission in and of itself. Merlin forbid the girl admit she was upset about anything at all) Cosmia couldn't help but laugh. After the giggling subsided, the explanation breathed relief through Daphne. So she was going to Hogwarts after all! Just not until next year. It was disappointing at first, but it was another year at home with her sister, and also helped to bridge their age gap (instead of Astoria being a first year when Daphne is a fourth year, she is instead a first year when Daphne is a third year).
Daphne's school career is nothing to be very interested in. She was sorted into Slytherin, naturally, and ended up becoming rather close with the Slytherins in her year (although kept some close connections with some of the students a year up). Daphne was basically like most other students in school, excelling in some classes, having trouble in others, trying to write essays during breakfast, trying not to fall asleep in history of magic, and most importantly, giving the impression that she was a perfectly well-behaved young woman of high society to her parents. This image continued to deceive her parents into believing that she had been influenced by little Astoria in some ways and calmed her free-thinking ways, becoming a slave to the old traditions. That was, until her fourth year, when she tried out and was accepted onto the Slytherin quidditch team.
Since then, it's been a downhill battle for Daphne to try and keep a balance between what she wants and what her parents want. She will never be the wallflower they want her to become, and yet they demand it of her anyways. It's a difficult line that Daphne's been walking most of her life, and she doesn't know if she can stay on it for very long before having to make a choice. For now however, she is simply doing what she wants in school, because hey, why the hell not?

marital status:
unmarried, although she's sure her mother wants to throw her with someone someone.
pet(s):an owl named Abby. She shares it with Astoria, although she tends to hog Abby.
alliance:
Her alliance is to no one. She feels that those whose blood isn't as pure as hers should learn their place as subservient to her. However, she's not a supporter of violence and doesn't plan on joining the Death Eaters any time soon. Aside from that, her parents would never support it. She's a girl after all, her place is in the home, not out killing muggles.
favorite thing:
respect
If there's anything in the world she could have all the time, it would be respect. Respect as a young woman, respect as a Slytherin, respect as a quidditch player, respect as an equal. Of course she wants the respect men give when they don't slap a woman silly, or when they open the door for a girl, all those things. But she also wants the respect as being an equal if not superior being when it comes to the quidditch field. Only a year or two ago, the team was all boys, and that made it that much more difficult for Daphne to not only make the team, but even want to stay on. How many knock-downs she had gotten was ridiculous. She wants to be treated the same as a man in society, instead of some delicate little flower. She wants to be treated the same when it comes to houses (even though Slytherin is totally the best). How annoying is it when all the other houses think Slytherin is evil? Of course some Slytherins might not be the friendliest bunch, but they have other things to worry about along with all the things regular kids think about. The problem though, is that Daphne doesn't know how to give respect very well.
despised thing:
the hospital wing
Daphne hates the very idea of it! Although she's had to go there quite a few times from quidditch accidents or just her own bad luck, she hates it. It's ugly and impersonal, not to mention it's always freezing inside. It smells disgusting and she can't stand thinking about all the nasty things that go on in a hospital. Eugh, it gives Daphne the willies, although she'll very rarely admit it.
personality:
Daphne Greengrass is an odd girl. She's highly intelligent, cunning, mischievous, selfish, conceited, mellow, good-natured, generally positive, and confident. Beyond all of these traits though, Daphne's just weird, to put it plainly. To put it a little less bluntly, Daphne's..whimsical. She's offbeat, certainly a little reminiscent of everyone's favorite Loony Lovegood. But her odd is a little different than Luna's. While Luna might remind someone of someone who accidentally broke out of the asylum, Daphne seems more like the nymph she was named after. She's free-spirited and connected to nature in a way that's seldom seen in people anymore, let alone a Slytherin.
.THE NYMPH. Certainly this seventeen year old isn't your typical Slytherin. Or typical girl, for that matter. Daphne's gait is more of a fluid skipping than that of actual walking, a reflection of her personality. She seems mystical, like if she wasn't really there, merely an apparition from eons past. She might be what some would consider an 'old soul'. She doesn't seem to belong with the rest of the wizarding world. although she does just fine with them. Her eyes seem to hold some form of mystery, like if she knew things others could never imagine. She just feels like she should have been alive during the Founder's Era, not the present. It's usually a feeling most people get right off of her aura, but most aren't bothered by it. Along with this, is her inexplicable love affair with the natural world around her. Even if London is being pummeled by a snow storm, you can bet Daphne would be the one to go out there and dance around in the blizzard for a bit. She's usually walking at night, or apparating to random natural places like the coast or a forest clearing. This doesn't change during the day, either. If she can take a chance to take pictures of something natural or random, you bet she will. Reading is usually done outside, rain or shine. Usually shine though, as rain makes a little melancholy. Daphne loves physical activity as well, enjoying the natural wonders of her own body. Running, jumping, climbing, swimming, exploring, you name it she loves it. Although most of her friends have gotten used to it, it's still pretty disconcerting to realise that one of their old housemates seems to be a woodland creature.
.THE GOOD SLYTHERIN. Although Daphne's queer, and seems to be the odd one out, that's anything but the case. She can be just as cruel and ruthless as the rest of them. She has no problem cutting the legs off under someone. She has no problem spreading vicious rumors around about someone to exact revenge. She adores finding out anything about anyone. And if it's juicy enough, she'll spread it. Although she tends not to be, Daphne has the capability to become the malicious bad girl Slytherin most of the other houses view them as. Even though they're not bad at all. Just not afraid to take what's theirs, or use something or someone to their advantage. The blonde is no exception. Another Slytherin not-so-much-stereotype is the fact that the lot of them are all conceited. Well, Daphne certainly falls into this stereotype. While she knows she's not perfect, she's damn well close. She knows she's attractive, she knows she's a good witch, she knows she has plenty of good traits to overshadow her bad ones (which are close to nonexistent, if you ask her), and she's just generally awesome.
.THE OTHER SIDE OF THINGS. However, Daphne isn't the perfect pureblood daughter. She disappointed her parents in more than one way by sharing her desire to want to be a professional quidditch player. Playing is one thing in school, sure. But actually considering it a job? Why did she even need a job, they'd question her countless times. She had more money than she knew what to do with, the last thing she needed was a job. But there again, is her not-so-perfect side. The fact that her mind is always moving, always looking for new ways to entertain her, ever curious. Most women of high society entertained their minds with gossip. Not that Daphne's opposed to it, but it's never thrilled her long enough to do it for the rest of her life. Sitting around in fancy robes, gossiping with other purebloods, countless parties that always consisted of the same thing: superficial conversation with many people, dancing, light flirting, and then the goodbyes. How could she live like that? It would drive her mad. She needs to do something that can keep her mind and her body occupied. Quidditch was the only fit. But then again, Daphne was never looking for anything that might fit better anyways. Although the girl has seemed to fit just right in during school, she's always the puzzle piece that won't fit at home.

goal(s):
Although she knows her parents wouldn't approve at all, Daphne would actually really like to become a professional quidditch player. It's a rather unrealistic career choice for her, but times are changing and everyone can feel it.
worries:
Daphne of course, is worried about the impending war, and the pressures she knows her family will soon be under to choose a side, and the dangers of staying in neutrality.
Daphne is also worried about her N.E.W.T.S., although she's rather good at playing it off like if she wasn't worried about it at all.
change:
Daphne would certainly like for muggles to learn their place: under those of pure blood.
stagnant:
Daphne would like to stay in school forever. Although she's not scared of change, she's scared of what the change of graduating will bring (even though it's almost two years away). Will she do what she wants, at the risk of losing a relationship with her family? Will she sacrifice her wants for the wants of her family? And what if she doesn't go into professional quidditch? What then?

rp sample:Walking out of the shower with a fluffy white towel wrapped around her thin body, Daphne smiled. Besides quidditch, dressing up was probably her favorite thing to do. Especially in a beautiful dress for a special occasion. It was the night of the ball, and it was difficult for Daphne to quell her excitement as she dried her hair, arranging it in soft curls that fell around her face and to her pale, bare shoulders. Then it was time for her dress, that lovely dark red form-fitting dress that made Daphne feel on top of the world. She'd heard once that muggles got highs from smoking and injecting substances into themselves; well, she didn't need any of that to get her high. Finally, all that was left was the make up, done with a bare lip and smokey eye, her shoes, and lastly the mask. Of course, even with the mask it was mostly obvious who she was. But Daphne would pretend it wasn't, and maybe she could get away with some mischief.
Walking up the steps from the dungeons to the first floor in the heels she was wearing was certainly a task of olympic proportions. But she accomplished it, and now she was surrounded by the buzz of excited chatter from people all over. Some were by the steps, obviously waiting for someone to meet them, while others were in nervous groups, perhaps too chicken to dance or also waiting for someone to join them. Daphne however did not have to worry about any of that. No one had asked her to the ball, and it was all fine with her. She wasn't looking for any sort of organized fun that would tie her to just one person. No, she wanted excitement, something different. She had a mask on covering her face, so she felt free of some of the restraints she had to follow due to being a pureblood. A Slytherin pureblood.
Looking about, she saw that the Great Hall was dressed up quite beautifully as well, bright and inviting. Daphne smiled, glad to be doing something out of the ordinary. It was nice to put away the stresses of normal life for one glorious night and just have fun. Looking around, she saw there were couples already on the dance floor. She resisted the urge to simply grab someone and make them dance with her, but instead seated herself next to a shabby looking boy. Daphne could tell in an instant of quick observation that he was a Weasley, although she wasn't quite sure which one it was. It didn't matter much to her however. Although they went against her personal beliefs, and associated with mudbloods and the like, Daphne had a quiet respect for them. No matter what anyone said, they did what they wanted. Half the kids in her house who thought they were ten times better than anyone else because their parents served the dark lord only did so out of pure fear. It was intelligent, of course, but completely spineless.
Looking towards him again, Daphne simply let the words blurt out before she could catch them again. "Would you care to dance?" She asked him, with a little smile on her pink lips. She was the slightest bit afraid that he would be able to see right through that mask and know who she was, tell the school, and ruin her. But she quelled the silly fear; people only knew who she was when her face was visible and her colors were showing. Besides, no one else would have asked him to dance, if he didn't say yes he was a fool.
